Firefox released the new version of Firefox nightly, that is 65. With this new update, Firefox is starting out support for a image format which is been there since long time and that is WebP.
WebP is a image format for employing both lossy and lossless compression. This format was announced in September of 2010. It is developed by Google.
Google then announced WebP for animation, XMP metadata and tiling in 2011 and started experiment with transparency support which led to conversion for a PNG file to WebP file with 45% reduction in file size.
This feature is off by default but you can activate it by turning on the image.webp.enable flag in config.
The support for WebP is also made available by Edge and Opera browsers since the October update.
